Why You Should Have an Advisor

Any student who has been contacted to speak with a staff member of the Office of Student Conduct is entitled and encouraged to have an advisor present during any interviews. This advisor will help you understand the process involved in any investigation which this office conducts. An advisor must be a member of the University community, and may be a student, faculty, or staff member.

You must perform your community service at the organizations listed above.

For all community service sites, you should schedule work in advance. If you schedule work and then find you cannot do it, you must call the organization and cancel. When circumstances prevent you from working with your first choice organization, you are expected to make arrangements with another site in order to complete your community service hours on time.

Verification of Community Service

It is your responsibility to provide OSC with verification of the hours you work. Please note: WE WILL CALL TO VERIFY THAT YOU DID IN FACT WORK. Turning in a false verification form will result in new OSC charges. Make sure you take the form with you. The organizations do not stock verification forms. And, please make sure you give the verification forms to OSC.

Important Aspects of Our Disciplinary Process

  1. If a complaint has been made against you in the Office of Student Conduct, you are entitled to be notified promptly in writing. A copy of the Charter of the Student Disciplinary System will accompany this notice.
  2. Any individual involved in the disciplinary process (respondent, complainant or witness) may be accompanied by an advisor from the University community when meeting with the Office of Student Conduct or attending a disciplinary hearing.
  3. All members of the University community are required to cooperate with the Student Disciplinary System. This cooperation includes providing honest and complete statements to the Office of Student Conduct and, if necessary, to disciplinary hearing panels.
  4. The disciplinary matter brought to the Office of Student Conduct may be resolved in any of a number of ways. These include: dismissal of a complaint; referral of a matter to mediation or to another appropriate University office; resolution through voluntary agreement; and resolution by disciplinary hearing.
  5. In the interests of fairness and privacy, disciplinary proceedings are confidential. The identity of individuals involved in a disciplinary matter, and all records pertaining to that matter are confidential. Disclosure of confidential information about a disciplinary proceeding by any member of the University, other than the respondent to whom the confidential information pertains, may subject that individual to disciplinary action.
